Michael David Murphy sadly notes his apartment was robbed and ransacked very recently. My heart goes out to him. Take this time to make a plan to do the following:
- photograph every piece of equipment and note serials in a safe place.
- do something about insurance, even a minimum could offset the damage and loss of income.
- think about scrubbing your websites of address information. Email is always going to be a good first contact.
- consider a locking cabinet for equipment, at least it would slow thieves down.
- cable lock computers and other office equipment to desks and shelves.
- photocopy passports and credit cards on both sides and store those copies safely. Also useful when you are travelling.
- consider yourself lucky if you have never had an issue.
